Late one day in september 2023, I found myself TikTok-scrolling. I looked up at one point, and realized almost 4 hours had gone by. It was 2am and I could not fathom where the time went.
The next morning I deleted the app – only to realize I longed for it just hours later. It took a while to get used to not having it, but to this day, I don´t.
6 months later, I was watching shorts (short videos) on Facebook and Instagram. The same thing happened again – late into the night in the middle of the week. I knew something had to change.
A few days later I decided on a whim to delete Facebook, Instagram and Twitter (X) from my phone. I can still check in from a laptop, but I now find myself checking only a few few times a day.
Do I feel different, now that it has been another few months?
Well yes, let me tell you!
I have so much more and energy for my kids, my friends, and I can actually leave the house without my phone. Can you imagine? I used to feel naked without that thing.
Finally I can gather my thoughts without getting that FOMO or being zombied into the endless scroll. I do feel like I am in control now – not Meta or Bytedance, who owns TikTok.
It is not your fault!
The algorithms are simply that strong and there was no warnings of addiction along the way.
Five hours per day on a phone – come on!
If that is not an addiction, nothing is.
Do you also get the FOMO when you stay away for more than 30 mins?Well, you are not alone!
…so why this site?
I started writing a book about a curious giraffe named Maya. That curious nature became my salvation and I am quite sure it will be the solution for oh so many!
